What’s On

York Open Windows
The spirit of York Open Studios lives on with all participating artists asked to put some artworks in their windows to brighten the day of neighbours, delivery drivers and the occasional passerby on their daily walk… Work by all artists can be found at www.yorkopenstudios.co.uk

Stay home, stay safe
As we continue to ‘stay home, stay safe’ we have been updating our website with plenty of lovely landscapes (amongst other things). You can still enjoy the view, but from the safety of your own home. Enjoy taking some time out to browse and let your mind wander. And if you do decide to buy, then all artworks will be packed with all the necessary precautions. We can also offer free delivery to York addresses, just select ‘local pick up’ at the checkout and we’ll be in touch to arrange something suitable.

York Open Studios – CANCELLED
Sadly, in light of recent announcements about the COVID-19 situation, York Open Studios 2020 has been cancelled. Corner Gallery houses many artworks by York Open Studios artists, so do have a look right here. Details about all the artists can be found at www.openstudios.co.uk . Take some time out and enjoy the distraction of the creativity of the great York art community.

Sky Arts ‘Landscape Artist of the Year’
A wild day painting on the Tyne. Back in July, I was selected to be a ‘Wildcard’ artist for the Sky Arts ‘Landscape Artist of the Year’ competition. It was filmed in Gateshead, and I spent a fabulous day painting the bridges over the Tyne. It was an amazing experience to be a tiny part of this great show and to join over 50 other artists painting outside (aka ‘en plein air’) for a day. This is definitely something I would love to do again!

‘Coffee, cake & cava’ for Macmillan Friday 27th September
Corner Gallery are hosting ‘Coffee, cake & cava’ for Macmillan’s World Biggest Coffee Morning. Friday 27th September, from 11am – 6pm, all are welcome to raise a glass and funds for Macmillan. There will be an old fashioned raffle with the chance to win an art print or two. And 10% of all sales on the day will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Kay Dower (aka me!) will be sharing Corner Gallery space with Claire Morris for York Open Studios. Original paintings of York and beyond from the palette knife of Kay Dower will sit beside the enigmatic book art photography of Claire Morris. We are both really excited to be part of York Open Studios which will run over two weekends in April (6 & 7th and 13th & 14th). A warm welcome awaits and plenty of art to whet your appetite from mini prints (£15) to mighty large original paintings.

Xmas Commission for Olive’s Nest
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… When I was asked by Olive’s Nest to draw on their Christmas window, I jumped (and danced a little) at the chance. Nordic trees and baubles were the order of the day! Loved getting busy with my chalk pen… Check them out for gorgeous gifts by a host of independent makers and artists (Olive’s Nest is at 4 Scarcroft Road, York, YO23 1NB).
